Get a Clue Photo Wallet Tutorial with Master Detective

“Hello, G45’ers!  I don’t know about you, but I think the new Master Detective Collection is fiendishly fabulous!  I found an intriguing online tutorial for making tiny matchbox style folios and I liked the idea so much that I modified the design to create a much larger 4” x 4” Photo Wallet.

Our daughters love to host murder mystery dinners where everyone is assigned a character, comes in costume and spends the evening trying to figure out “whodunnit”.  I thought this style album would be the perfect place to preserve the photos from the event.

The base of the album is created with 2 sheets of 12×12 Master Detective Patterns and Solids paper.   I find the paper is just the right thickness for a folded project like this one.

Patterned paper from the 8×8 collection is die cut and layered on the front of the cover and topped with this fabulous chipboard piece.  I found the wooden magnifying glass in my stash, and just had to use it on the cover along with the fun steampunk clock charm. I’ve matted a border strip with black cardstock to finish out the bottom of the cover.

 

 

TIP: Add extra dimension to the cover by backing each element with foam tape or waste chipboard.

 

TIP: Because the photo wallet is on the small side, all the other patterned papers I used are from the 8×8 paper collection. You always want the size of your pattern to correlate to the size of your project.  Large projects call for large patterns.  Smaller projects look more proportionate with the smaller images and patterns found in smaller sized papers.  It’s a good design rule to keep in mind.

 

 

The album is held shut with a belly band.  This is the only piece of 12×12 paper I used in the entire album.  I matted the postage stamp border on black cardstock, then topped it with a houndstooth bow, a flower from my stash, some baker’s twine, a chipboard charm and a silvertone skeleton.

 

You’ll find lots of secret hiding places scattered all through the photo wallet.  

I’ve fussy cut images from the signature page of the collection to make these great ATC tag pockets.

 

TIP: To turn the fussy cut image into a pocket, simply attach just the outer edge and bottom to the page.  This creates the perfect tuck spot.  Even the tags have secret compartments!

 

 

Each ATC tag holds a mini mystery novel created with the playing card images.  Wouldn’t it be fun to add small photos of your murder mystery guest inside these little books?  Photo booth style Halloween party photos would look great here as well.
